Will I Enjoy Being Sheridan Care Center Volunteer? I volunteer because it is fun! In volunteering in a nursing home setting you think you are going to help the residents out and make their day, but what ends up happening is that they end up helping me and making my day. The residents start to become like your family. It is like being apart of an extended family.
Pastor Ross Poteet
There are no words to describe how rewarding it was for me to volunteer at Sheridan. Without much experience in nursing homes, the staff immediately made me feel at ease with the Christian family atmosphere and positive attitudes of all. Every time I volunteered, it was a memorable experience. Sometimes I would talk for hours with a resident, and I truly felt like it made an immeasurable difference in their day. I walked away each day with the greatest feeling that I was doing something completely for someone else, but through their smiles and stories I think I got much more out of my time there than maybe they did. I learned all about Pearl Harbor from a man who was actually on one of the air craft carriers. He shared pictures, newspaper clippings, and told me many stories about the war. There will come a day when all of the people will be gone that were alive during these historical and life changing events, so I think it is so important to listen to every detail so we can share it with our own children someday. If you are interested in working with the elderly, or even just want to make a wonderful difference in someone's life, I would highly recommend that you check into volunteering at this amazing place.
